SuperNova Review
I am a visually impaired person and have been a user of Dolphin SuperNova Magnifier & Speech for a year. I have had Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) since I was born, so I can only see about 30% in my right eye. Additionally, my retina has come off in my left eye and so I can't see anything with my left.
At school I used Zoomtext, but unfortunately the version I used became obsolete and the upgrade was too expensive. So I decided to look for an alternative and found it at Dolphin SuperNova.
Dolphin Computer Access helped me pass high school when my previous solution became obsolete. I was able to obtain a free trial of SuperNova on a USB key, which meant I could pass high school and continue my studies.
From here, I decided to buy SuperNova Magnifier & Speech and I was not disappointed, it had the advantage of being an affordable price from the Altix Dolphin dealer.
The SuperNova program is above all convenient and easy to use. I don't have to search for the things I need in the program, because I can easily find my way around. The SuperNova control panel is clear and gives easy access to all the necessary functions.
For me, the most important thing is that SuperNova is sold in a USB pen version. This is really good because I do not have to install software and then worry about set up or activation codes. I just go to any computer, plug in the SuperNova USB pen, it means that everything I need to use a computer for study is literally in my pocket!
I am confident that SuperNova will be useful to me in my studies next year, especially as I will then be writing final papers and exams.
I am very pleased to have discovered Dolphin SuperNova and honestly I would not trade it for anything else.
Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP)
American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS) describes Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) as 'a potentially blinding disease caused by abnormal development of retinal blood vessels in premature infants'.
Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is one of the most common causes of vision loss in childhood. In babies born prematurely, retinal blood vessels can grow abnormally, and spread throughout the retina – the tissue that lines the back of the eye – these fragile blood vessels can leak and scar the retina, which can cause it to detach.
Studies show that Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) primarily affects babies born before 31 weeks gestation, or weighing under 1.25kg. Most cases are mild, and any abnormality of the retinal blood vessels resolves without causing damage to the retina, but in severe cases of ROP, the retina can detach from the eye wall, which can cause severe visual impairments.
